Ah, It's Friday...that means seafood where I come from! :)

Hi everybody,
Tonight's dish is Capellini all’Aglio con Acciughe!
Ah, it's Friday...call me a traditionalist...or maybe just a good Italian Catholic boy :) lol...but that means a seafood dish for me:)...
So...I made some Capellini all’Aglio con Acciughe! (Angel Hair pasta w/ Garlic, Olive Oil & Capers,  melted anchovies, some black pepper, a few red pepper flakes and a sprinkle of Asiago cheese if you like). Or, Pasta con Alice(Aleechay) as we say in my house:)
You can also sprinkle some bread crumbs over the top if you'd like to finish the dish...
I have to say...I love this dish...and, it is a personal favorite of mine. I usually have this as one of the 7 fishes dishes on Christmas Eve...or on Fridays...but it is good any day of the week , any time of year. The anchovies and capers provide such an intense, salty flavor..Delizioso!

Some background...
Technically...Acciughe (singular 'acciuga') are anchovies...small fish preserved with salt and canned in olive oil...Another word for anchovies in Italian is Alice(Alici) (pronounced Ahleetchee) which refer to the fresh fish...but in my house growing up we just called this dish "pasta con alice"...or as my Grandfather would say "Basta con Aleetch) There are many dialects in Italy...depending on where you come from...there are many ways to say the same things..form town region to region, city to city or town to town...
Anchovies are integral to Mediterranean cuisines...In Italy, they are used extensively in many dishes such as Puttanesca sauce, Bagna Cauda, Pizza....and in so many sauces and recipes...for flavor and to add saltiness...you also find them in Worchestershire Sauce and Caesar Salad dressing....and it is available as a paste for cooking...

I will definitely have this recipe in my upcoming Cookbook! S
o stay tuned for a more detailed and thorough explanation of this classic, very simple Italian dish!
Wishing you all a great weekend! Buon fine settimana a tutti!
Love,
Joe

When life hands you lemons......make a loaf of homemade Italian bread!:)

When life hands you lemons....hmmm.....make a loaf of homemade Italian bread!:)lol

Yeah, I know the expression..the response is "make lemonade"....lol...but, well, it's been a rough week on the homefront for me...stress city! So I decided to make a homemade bread....
I know some of you can probably relate in some way?

This is a very simple recipe...a little flour, touch of salt...and I didn't have any yeast..so I used beer instead...it really came out delicious!:)

Have a great Saturday everyone! Buon Sabato a tutti!! :)
Love,
Joe

Ladies and gentlemen: with over 15 000 fans and 38 000 song-plays,  not to mention the 178,532 ReverbNation widget impressions, there should be no confusion as to why Joe Gande is making waves in the indie music scene.
Joe is “A Natural” singer/songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, pianist, producer and arranger from New York who picked up his skills without ever taking a formal musical lesson in his life. Being a prolific songwriter and self-taught guitarist with an ear for melody since a young age, his sexy/soulful/heartfelt vocals, walls of guitars, funky grooves, horns and beautiful string melodies cross all barriers.
Joe’s music provides listeners with dynamics, heartfelt emotions and raw intensity. His songs are filled with soaring melodies, catchy hooks, addictive, sing along choruses, introspective, self-searching moments and pure, driving rock & roll…
His latest musical project is called Joe Gande and The Godsend Sessions. The long awaited official CD release “The Godsend Sessions” is available for high quality digital download at www.joegande.bandcamp.com as well as Itunes, Amazon, Napster, Emusic and 40 plus other online retailers.

One of my favorite quotes....A few thoughts....

This is one of my favorite quotes from history about music....

I remember coming across it as a kid on an old pece of parchment paper at a museum shop...

Many of you may be familiar with it...

I think it says it all....

Many of you may know that I love history and the past...since I was a child I have been fascinated with all that has come before....and I still continue to study and read and learn all that I can...I am running out of room for my books!:)lol I have always wanted to have one of those old fashioned, somewhere out of time, European style office/libraries with the moving ladder to reach the shelves!:)lol

It blows me away that this was felt and said about music so long ago...

I actually titled my very first production demo cassette done for Polygram records many moons ago..."A Charm to Sadness"....

Hmmm...I have to find that tape and convert and post some songs from it sometime! Maybe some of you would get a kick out of it and like the songs!?

Wishing you all a beautiful day!!

Love,

Joe

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful of which it is the invisible but never less dazzling, passionate and eternal form...Plato

Joe Gande-Artwork by Liquid....and Myspace thoughts....

I was over on the almost now abandoned Myspace.com earlier today....

I was updating some things there and came across this wonderful, very cool and interesting super hero, caricature, artwork done by my friend Liquid some time ago...and I thought I would share:)

Ahhh...Myspace....it was once THE social network...though it seems to be a ghost town for some time now...and we're all on Facebook and the many other cool new social networking websites...it seems to be making a bit of a comeback these days...slowly but surely...I believe maybe because of some of the new features, Facebook integration etc...and probably due to it's new owner Justin Timberlake....and I have to say, though many pages it seems have been left behind and not updated for a year or more...there are thousands of new people signing up daily....and it is it still is a great place to check out music or get exposure for your music, or other work you may do and to connect/network and reach a worldwide audience online...As a musical artist...I do suggest stopping by once in awhile to see what's going on there....

What do you all think? Anyone still maintaining and/or utilizing their Myspace page?

Zuppa di Pasta e Broccoli...Italian Soul Food!!

Hmmm... let's see...what do I have in the house at the moment....a box of Ziti...a bag of broccoli, some olive oil, a little grated cheese and a a few hot red pepper flakes, water...presto! Italian Soul Food!!:)

Zuppa di pasta e broccoli

This is one of my very favorites...a fairly quick, simple, affordable, and healthy, home cooked meal that is delicious...yet it can also be served in the finest of restaurants...This is my Nonna's recipe...

This is a a meatless dish...and just one wonderful example of what some these days may call "Italian peasant food"...dishes that were very basic and born out of necessity, hard times and love..."Food for survival" so to speak....and now these same dishes seem to nowadays be very trendy!

I will definitely have the full recipe in my upcoming cook book...

Mangia bene a tutti mi amici!! Have an awesome weekend everybody!

And to all of you here in the US, have a very Happy Labor Day weekend!!! Love,

Joe
